Notes: Please note a break in the data. Data up to July 30, 1914 consisted of 12 industrial stocks. In September 1916 the data represented 20 stocks and the index was recalculated back to December 12, 1914 to reflect this change.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average provides a view of the US stock market and economy. Originally, the index was made up of 12 stocks, it now contains 30 component companies in various industries.
